Welcome

It is with great sorrow that we come together today with the departure of our president and dear friend, Fr. Julio Giulietti, S.J. We have all come here to seek the truth, and to know and understand what has happened within the university walls and what has become of the reputation of WJU. In this light, please invite anyone to read the blog and feel free to comment as you wish.

Any posts with profanity are not welcome, otherwise, please speak your mind. You are a part of this university and we want to hear your voice!

A Word to the Wise

I am a banker in Pittsburgh. The hiring of Mr. Richard Beyer, the fifth president at Wheeling Jesuit University in 10 years, deeply troubles me.  Besides the unresolved issue of the sacking of Jesuit Fr. Giulietti, there is the longstanding issue of the coming bankruptcy of this institution.  Does Mr. Beyer know that he was hired actually to close the school?  The banking community in this banking city is waiting for the opportunity to arrange the sale of the institution. The loss of students and faculty, the disappearance of alumni support and crushing debt cannot go one much longer. There are scientific and other research institutions in this city that need to grow and expand and have the resources to do so. But land is tight here.  Wheeling is a bedroom community to Pittsburgh. It is time to act.

A word to the wise.

  1. Strange! "Leo Cleary" claims he's a banker in Pittsburgh, and "Larry Catraro" says he lives in Washington, D.C., and Leo and Larry are both oddly obsessed with the idea of selling Wheeling Jesuit to UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) -- which we are told has secret plans to acquire classroom & lab space in Wheeling, WV. Both "Leo" and "Larry" urge that this should happen whenever either of them posts a message here, and more strangely, neither man can be found in any telephone directory, alumni list, professional directory or Google search. Isn't that an amazing coincidence! Maybe they are secret partners in a top secret real estate firm.

  2. Anon. in Comment #1 does the same thing he accuses Larry and Leo of doing: he writes anonymously. He claims to have researched the alumni list even though no such directory has been available since 1998. You think Leo is amazing? Try shadowing WJU’s recent acquisition: the first “unread Protestant” president in 476 years of Jesuit history.

  3. As my great aunt Lucy used to say, "There's no good comes of crying over spilt milk!" She was a Sister of Mercy, God bless her, and she had a few suspicions about the Jesuits although the mother superior at the convent house told her to keep them to herself. One day she asked one of her students, a little girl, what she wanted to be when she grew up. The little girl said "I want to be a prostitute." Poor aunt Lucy just about popped her wimple and said "WAHT DID YOU SAY?!" The girl repeated herself, "I want to be a prostitute!" Well, Great aunt Lucy smiled and beathed a big sigh of relief, then. She said,"Well, begorra, and thanks be to God for that, I thought you said you said you wanted to be a Protestant!" I don't think she would have minded if UPMC bought the campus, as she always liked the Steelers.

  4. WJU is being very cagy about addressing Richard Beyer's religion. Is he a Catholic or not? Why hasn't the board of directors informed students, alumni and donors about this? Given the university's alleged mission, this is relevant and important information. Frankly I am getting a little tired of the secrecy and non-disclosure.
