Welcome

It is with great sorrow that we come together today with the departure of our president and dear friend, Fr. Julio Giulietti, S.J. We have all come here to seek the truth, and to know and understand what has happened within the university walls and what has become of the reputation of WJU. In this light, please invite anyone to read the blog and feel free to comment as you wish.

Any posts with profanity are not welcome, otherwise, please speak your mind. You are a part of this university and we want to hear your voice!

A Response to Fr. Currie

The original article in Connections by Rev. Charles L. Currie, S.J., President AJCU can be found HERE.

 Dear Fr. Currie.

As I read your September letter in Connections this morning I was pleased to notice the following:

"A Jesuit college or university must model concern for justice in its institutional practices.  It must mirror a life of just relationships with students, faculty and staff, and in its outreach."

I think you are absolutely correct.

Your mention of Fr. Howard Grey and his opinion that "In institutions, students will form memories of who they should be."  clearly speaks to the heart of the current difficulties at Wheeling Jesuit.  I have no doubt that Fr. Grey would agree that until justice is provided for Fr. Julio Giulietti, our students will form faulty memories of who they should be.

You have characterized the people responsible for his firing as "good people".  That may be true, but sometimes good people do bad things.  This is one of those times.  Until Fr. Julio's good name and reputation are restored, the university will only mirror injustice with its entire community.  That our students might perceive this as right and just should be a concern for all of us.

WJU alumni understand that it is within the power of the Maryland Province to restore justice and integrity to the university. We understand that it could be accomplished quickly.  That is what needs to happen.

Providing a solution to the WJU problem requires courage, discipline and honorable intent.  Isn't that what the pursuit of magis is about?

My best,
Judy Geary

  1. I can’t believe that you are on Alumni Council and choose to post or allowed your letter to be posted on this site. This site isn’t about what’s best for WJU, but rather a site to further the manipulation of the public by Julio, the great fabricator, in order stroke his ego. Furthermore, and I can’t say this more clearly and with more conviction, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT JUDY.

This site is a tremendous success at hurting Wheeling Jesuit, the town of Wheeling and now your reputation.

    Nice work Judy….shame on you

  2. Oh wise and all-knowing anonymous,

It seems that you know a lot about this. Please educate us of what the real reason is for the president's dismissal.

What's the matter? Cat bit your tongue?

    Maybe because there is NOTHING!

It is clearly the people who fired Fr. Giulietti that has hurt WJU and Wheeling. If you say otherwise... PROVE ME WRONG!

  3. Isn't it funny that "Oh wise and all knowing anonymous" seems to think that only the people that voted against Fr. Giulietti knows the real story. What about the Directors that voted against the firing of our president? Were they not aware of the reasons the vote was brought up in the first place? Oh yeah, Fisher did not give any reasons. He just said he has the authority to do so as Chairman of the Board. What about the laymen and jesuits that have known Fr. Giulietti for decades, are they all clueless as to this man's character?
Unlike you, Judy Geary is representing us and protesting Fr. Giulietti's firing in a respectful manner. "all knowing and anonymous", you are behaving more and more like our US Congress during this Health Care Reform debate. Like Congress, you seem to think only you (Board of Directors, Board of Trustees and WJU Administration) know what is best for us. Like Congress, you think anyone that disagrees with you doesn't know what they are talking about or is manipulated by Fr. Giulietti. Like Congress, most of whom have not read the Health Care Reform Bill (HR3200), you don't really know why you fired Fr. Giulietti. You played follow the leader. You are so full of hate for Fr. Giulietti that you can't see why we are really protesting. We are protesting against how he was fired You all thought this would pass quietly because he is a jesuit and he will not sue. Well you forgot about all of us who respect the man and know that how he was fired was unjust. That is why if you choose to ignore us for disclosure, we will make our voices be heard through our checkbooks.

  4. Why are the Board of Directors trying to make their appointments to the Board a lifetime appointment? Remember....
"POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY"

  5. Dear "Wise and All-Knowing" Anonymous,

What happened with you? Did the cat really bite your tongue? 320 voters on the blog are waiting...

  6. Let's get this straight: the university fires its president under suspicious circumstances and under the shadow of a NASA audit, then replaces him with the very man in charge of the sponsored programs targeted by this investigation . . . and people worry about this site muddying WJU's reputation?

    Genius!
